State Representative Shawn Dooley Secures Funding For King Philip Regional Animal Shelter
BOSTON –State Representative Shawn Dooley (R-Norfolk) is excited to announce that he has secured $50,000 in funding for the establishment of a King Philip Regional Animal Shelter, serving the Towns of Norfolk; Plainville; and Wrentham, as a part of the State’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 Budget. The budget was approved by the Legislature on July 22nd and was later signed into law by Governor Baker on July 31st.
“An animal shelter serving the KP area has been a glaring need for many years now” said Dooley. “I’ve worked over the past few years to secure this funding, and I am happy we were finally able to get it into the budget. It is my hope that by having a regional shelter, our entire community will be able to have a facility that will help all of our animals by sharing and maximizing our resources.”
“I am very pleased to see this start to come into fruition” said Christopher Wider, who is both a Norfolk Select Board member and the Animal Control Officer for the Towns of Wrentham and Plainville. “A great deal of work was done in 2017 by Paula Pasquantonio showing the number of cats which were being taken in by Paws of Plainville, saving both Wrentham and Plainville thousands of dollars. 4 Paws has been working for years with fundraisers to see an animal shelter happen, and both Angelcat Haven and KP Animal Rescue this past couple of years have picked up the torch with fostering and care for at times over 100 felines! Rep. Dooley and Richard Ross saw these efforts and took it to the next level! Thank you Rep. Dooley.”
