Representative Dooley September 29th COVID-19 Update

Crap, it’s almost midnight and I just came upstairs to bed. Laptop dead, crap again, back down to the basement to grab the power cord. Ok, time to write… so tired. And no, not up late because of the debate. I was in the basement building a large desk/table for my podcast which will hopefully start this week. Or at least do some trim runs. I must say, building the table has been cathartic and if I don’t win re-election maybe that will be my new career. Get into an almost zen like state and get totally relaxed - but maybe that is due to the fumes from the lacquer. Either way, very relaxing and very pleased with my project. I’ll post some pics tomorrow of the final product.

Unfortunately 8 more people passed away today due to the virus (or as a complication that exasperated a previous condition) and there were 450 new positives. Slightly disturbing is that for the past week we have seen a climb in covid related hospitalizations. What I don’t know is if these are people who are in the hospital and have covid or are in hospital solely because of covid? As in - I am having my tonsils out and while I’m there I test positive for covid - or is it , I’m having complications from the virus - and they admit. My guess it is a combination of both. The good news is that ICU rates have remained flat and those on ventilations have gone down.

Governor Baker had some good news (kind of) today in so much that beginning Monday we enter phase 3 part b. Or as I like to refer to it: Phase 6 of his 4 part plan. Effective October 5, a limited number of sectors will be eligible to reopen, with restrictions, in Step II of Phase III for lower risk communities only:

Indoor performance venues will be permitted to open with 50% capacity with a maximum of 250 people.

Outdoor performance venue capacity will increase to 50% with a max of 250 people.

For arcades and indoor and outdoor recreation businesses, additional Step II activities like trampolines, obstacle courses, roller rinks and laser tag will also be permitted to open and capacity will increase to 50%.

Fitting rooms will be permitted to open in all types of retail stores.

Gyms, museums, libraries and driving and flight schools will also be permitted to increase their capacity to 50%.

Revised Gatherings Order:

The limit for indoor gatherings remains at a maximum of 25 people for all communities.

Outdoor gatherings at private residences and in private backyards will remain at a maximum of 50 people for all communities.

Outdoor gatherings at event venues and in public settings will have a limit of 50 people in Step I communities, and a limit of 100 people in lower risk, Step II communities.

Only problem is what defines a lower risk community. If you have been RED in the past 3 weeks - you are not lower risk. WTF? Even if it is all in one nursing home??? I have already put in requests to the Governor and DPH to allow for Wrentham’s Board of Health to get a waiver since it is not community spread. It is not fair to our businesses - many who are barely hanging on - to be punished because there was a small cluster (currently in a nursing home. Hopefully there will be someone with some common sense to realize that is the right thing to do. I’m not holding my breath though.

Oh, almost forgot - for those who have Verizon Fios - I got a call last night that a few folks have been having issues for about a week with connecting to the internet. With everyone working from home and remote learning - this is a huge deal and I’m surprised no one called me before now. Evidently - lots of techs out and no one was 100% sure and one division was not talking to the other, etc. Fortunately I know an executive at their corporate offices that is pretty high up and was able to get things moving. Or at least moving faster. The problem, it turns out, was at the station in Franklin and my buddy called to let me know that the replacement part arrived at 5pm and they were going to preform the swap out tonight. So, fingers crossed that this actually happens.

And seriously, if ever something like this happens again, please don’t wait for a week. If I can help I will and if I can’t, I’ll try and find someone who can. Worse case scenario is I say sorry, nothing I can do. But those who know me know that I hate saying that. So it's worth a shot.

I’m fading fast. Up in 5 hours! Ugh. I really do need to sleep more. Stay safe and stay healthy!
