Chief Justice Paula Carey of the Massachusetts Trial Court recently named state Rep. Shawn Dooley, R-Norfolk, to the Massachusetts Trial Court’s Child Support Guidelines Task Force.
This task force will conduct the quadrennial review of the Massachusetts guidelines as required by federal law.
Dooley is one of two nonattorneys named to the task force and this marks the first time a legislator has been selected to serve on this important commission. Chief Justice Ordonez of the Probate and Family Court is chairing the group.
“I was extremely honored to have been chosen by the Chief Justice for this role. It is nice to be noticed for my involvement with parenting rights as well as for my ability to work with differing groups to reach a consensus within the legislature,” said Dooley.
The Task Force will be having public hearings throughout the state in the month of June in Boston, Worcester, Lawrence, Springfield and Plymouth. Public comment can be submitted via email at email@example.com or by mail by writing to: Child Support Guidelines Task Force c/o Executive Office of the Trial Court, John Adams Courthouse; 1 Pemberton Square, Boston, MA 02108.
“This is such an important issue for many residents of the commonwealth and my priority is making sure that the best interest of the child is always considered first and foremost,“ Dooley said. “There are so many moving parts that need to be analyzed from tax consequences to college expenses.”
The Task Force anticipates meeting throughout the year and the final report is expected to be completed by June 2017.
